Frequently asked questions
How does the speed test work?
Your browser downloads test data from our server in Germany (Falkenstein data centre) over several parallel connections and then uploads it again. This gives your download and upload speed in Mbps as well as ping and jitter in milliseconds. The measurement is based on the open-source software LibreSpeed.
What do ping and jitter mean?
Ping is the response time of your connection – important for video calls, VoIP and online gaming. Jitter shows how much that response time varies. Low values for both mean a stable connection.
Why is my result slower than my plan?
Common causes are Wi-Fi instead of a cable, an overloaded router, VPN connections, parallel downloads or a slow device. For a meaningful result, test over an Ethernet cable. If the problem is in your company network, we are happy to help.
How do I find my IP address?
Your public IPv4 and IPv6 address is shown above and can be copied with one click. On the command line, simply run “curl sayip.net”.
Is my data stored?
No. Test results are not stored and there are no ads and no tracking. Only faulty or abusive requests are logged for up to 7 days to defend against attacks.
Can I run the speed test in a terminal?
Yes. On macOS and Linux use “curl -sSL https://wieschnell.net/cli | bash”, on Windows “irm https://wieschnell.net/ps | iex”. With --json or -Json the result is also suitable for monitoring.
